Log Home Construction Overview

There are two basic types of log home construction: full log or Insul-R™insulated log construction.

The specific type of wood, the log shape and corner style varies by home design or homeowner preference. Wilderness Log and Timber Company offers a wide variety of log species and designs from which to choose. Our Planning Guides provide all the details on the choices available by brand.

Full Log

Full log is the traditional, time-honored way of building a log home and is available through Wilderness Log and Timber Company and Greatwood Log Homes.

Half Log

In insulated log construction, the logs are screwed to a conventionally framed and insulated wall, making the installation of wiring and plumbing easier. Insulated log construction is becoming very popular because it looks authentic, is energy efficiency (nearly double that of a conventional home), and the interior walls may be finished with your choice of materials, which offers a wide range of design flexibility. Insulated log construction is available with Wilderness Log and Timber Company and Retreat Series Log Homes.
